NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge is playing simulated games at the New York Yankees’ training complex in Tampa, Florida, as he gets closer to returning from a toe injury.Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Judge’s status is “day by day” and he didn’t know if the slugger would require a minor league rehab assignment before coming off the injured list. When asked Tuesday if Judge could possibly play for New York at first-place Baltimore this weekend, Boone said: “I wouldn’t rule anything out.”“Keeps moving in a good direction and the fact that we’re at this point is a positive,” he added.Judge has been sidelined since tearing a ligament in his right big toe June 3 when he crashed into the right-field fence while making a catch at Dodger Stadium. His progression has accelerated since the All-Star break, and the 2022 AL MVP faced live pitching Sunday at Yankee Stadium for the first time since the injury. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Brent Key grew accustomed to the days as an assistant coach with Georgia Tech players popping into his office, plopping down on the couch and venting a bit.Now that he’s the Yellow Jackets head coach? Not so much.“All of a sudden, I get named head coach and it’s like my door’s locked,” Key quipped. “It’s like, ‘We ain’t coming in there.’”Consider it one of the changes for Key and Louisville’s Jeff Brohm as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s two new football coaches. They’re back at their alma maters, eager to provide a spark to middling programs now competing in a division-less league. The hope is the familiarity that comes with being an alum — or in Key’s case, interim coach through much of last season — might help get things moving quickly.“In today’s age of college athletics, it’s about winning now,” Brohm said Tuesday at the league’s “ACC Kickoff” preseason media days.Their arrivals ...Royals owner pens letter to fans in hopes of being more transparent about stadium plans

LONDON — The British government failed for years to adequately respond to the threats posed by Russia’s Wagner Group, according to a damning assessment by a parliamentary committee. In a report on ministers’ efforts to counter the private military contractor — whose future has been left in doubt after its leader rebelled against the Russian military in June — the House of Commons foreign affairs committee on Wednesday said the government should now proscribe Wagner as a terrorist organization. And it warned Wagner still poses “serious national security threats” to the U.K. and its allies.“In the ten years since the Wagner Network’s formation, the U.K. government has lacked a coherent strategy and efforts to meaningfully tackle Wagner have been non-existent,” the committee’s chair Alicia Kearns said. “This has allowed the network to grow, spread its tentacles deep into Africa, and exploit countries on their knees due ...Crews provide update on Sumner Tunnel work as two-month tunnel closure continues

MassDOT crews led a tour inside the Sumner Tunnel Tuesday, discussing progress being made as the tunnel’s two-month closure for a series of repairs continues. The tunnel shut down on July 5. Asked this week if there’s any chance they won’t make their deadline to reopen the tunnel on Aug 31, project managers said “no.”The tunnel is closed as part of a larger project involving repairs to the tunnel ceiling, roadway, walls and lightning. MassDOT District 6 Highway Director John McInerney said Tuesday that crews have been working on both sides of the tunnel, which connects East Boston to downtown Boston.“We have set work that needs to be completed by Aug. 31 to open up the tunnel for safety,” he said.Project managers said they have been installing 16 new arches per day throughout the tunnel as crews continue to work to meet the Aug. 31 deadline.Ultimately, 780 new arches will be put in place. “You’ll have better lines of sight within the tunnel,” one crew member said. “We...Latest news
